New Work!
Monroe's World

12x12 inches on canvas

Since we found out we are having a baby boy, I wanted to do another painting that for the first time, yes did not have a woman as the focus. I found this old photograph when I was going through an old family photo album. I loved it! I wanted to create something a little surreal. My husband and I just recently visited the Dali Museum is St. Petersburg, and I was so inspired by his work! In the background I added a face which to me represents a sort of look out for the boy or an angel. He is in the middle of a journey and at a crossing point.

I hope even with having a new baby, I will still be able to continue to paint and add to my newest series. I will do my best to keep you updated!

I truly hope you like it, Enjoy! To view more of my work, please visit www.lauramae.com

38 weeks pregnant and getting ready for Baby!!

So I had such great intentions when I started this blog, that I would write and update it daily. Unfortunately I had the same idea with other projects I started at the same time as I started this blog. Although I do not have many new art pieces to update my blog with, I do have a couple projects I worked on during my pregnancy that I would like to share with you.....

My first project

In the process of decorating the nursery, I stumbled upon the Dwell Studio website and loved the silhouette animal canvases that they hung above the crib. I decided to make my own and save a ton of money. You only need the supplies and of course your time.

Materials needed-

2 canvases of the same size (I choose 24x24 inches)
acrylic paints
pencil for tracing
scissors
1 small paint brush for the small details and edges
1 larger paint brush
animal silhouettes
picture hardware to hang on the wall
(many of the supplies you can find at your local art supply store)

I started by going through a clip art animal silhouette book and picking the animals that I liked to be in the two pieces. From there, I went to Kinko's and enlarged the animal silhouettes on a xerox machine to the desired size. Next I cut them out, placed them on the canvas where I liked them and traced them. I already had my paint colors mixed and I started filling inside the traced animals with my paint brush. I kept it pretty basic with the colors, I stayed in the same color range of reds and added a neutral color too. The only thing left is to add the hardware to the back of the canvas and hang them securely on the wall.

Here are 2 examples of the works in progress:
